L - R: The day I arrived. Farzad (Canadian
teacher), James (student), Ryan (Canadian
teacher) and Patrick (Aussie teacher)
|

Apollo and Farzad. Apollo is in
the software
business and in
the beginner
class. He's the
only
student with a car and I
was lucky enough to be
involved
in a fender bender with him. We
were coming
home from a trip to Shenzhen
(near Hong Kong) when
this guy beside us decided to
change lanes.
|
 Halloween party: The
girls threw these costumes together on a moment's notice. Clockwise from
right to left: Olive, Suzanna, Daisy, Annie, Amy, Jonie.
|

More from the Halloween
party. I'm the one with the blue face.
|

Singing
songs out on the school grounds one nice afternoon.
David (left) loves to
go to karoke bars. Apollo is in the middle of a
song and Kellar is too shy
to join in.
|

David
hams it up as Apollo sings "Red River Valley"
to Kellar. Most
Chinese
know the song in Chinese.
It is known as a famous
Canadian folk
song.
|

From left: Jack, Ryan,
Steven, Brian Patrick, Vic, Me, Farzad, David and
Spring. Front from left: Kellar, Simon and Amanda.
|

This is
in Guangzhou near the Chen Family Temple. A series of statues
outline the
history of China. Quite a nice area.
|

This is
right behind the above statue. I think they meant "Relax in the grass."
Oddly enough, there's a "Keep off the grass" sign about six feet
away.
|

Neon palm
trees seem
to be the rage in
Guangdong province.
Many parks and shopping
centre entrances are adorned with them.
This is in the small city
of Yangjiang,
about 4
hours from Guangzhou.
|

This is
the view from my place. Looks like I made the right choice in not accepting
the offer from Yangjiang! |

Another
view from my place
|

This is
a bridge across a gorge near the small city of Gaoming, about 2 hours from
Guangzhou. the bridge is part of a trail that leads to an old Taoist temple
on the side of a mountain.
|

Me on the
steps of the temple. In the background is one of the smaller temple buildings.
I'd love to have taken some shots of the interior, but they don't allow
it.
|

This is
a park in the middle of Gaoming. I like this little city of about a million.
It's clean with lots of free parks. Jane is from this area and she tells
me that it was an incredibly dirty place as little as two years ago. She
couldn't believe the changes we saw when we were there. |

This is
in front of one of the larger shopping centres, Teem Plaza, in the cosmopolitan
business sector of Guangzhou called Tianhe. The guy with me is Ginger, a
geography teacher from Yangjiang. He's a pretty neat guy who loves to swear
in English. |

A shot
of the International Hotel in Yangjiang. This is probably the nicest hotel
in the city and it really caters to foreign tourists. |

A thorn
among the roses. I went out for dinner with the English department at the
school in Yangjiang. Bev, who is from Victoria is to the left of me, has
been in Yangjiang since August. |
