Teaching Philosophy of Guangzhou International Languages College ◆ Small-size classes: The number of students in each class is limited to fewer than 15 so that every student can have adequate opportunities to learn, communicate and be coached individually. ◆ Superintense training: Each weekday, the students are exposed to English for about 8 hours, including but not limited to classroom teaching, morning reading, practicing with foreign teachers, English corner/party, and individual coaching in the evening. ◆ Placement of students according to starting level: A placement test, divided into spoken and written sections, is conducted at the beginning of each semester. Each student is placed at a different class (zero beginner, threshold, intermediate, advanced, etc) according to the test result so that students at a similar level and aptitude will be grouped into the same class. This can guarantee fair play, more efficiency, greater opportunities and surer success. ◆ Listen and speak before reading and writing so that students no longer learn the language as static knowledge but as a tool for communication and a weapon for life and work. This approach will also greatly help overcome the so-called “Dumb English” phenomenon. Survival English first for beginners. ◆ Practice makes perfect. ◆ Immersion English Program and Homestay. ◆ Tailor-made courses and teaching methods. ◆Experienced foreign and Chinese tutors and their lively, humorous and effective classroom teaching methods. ◆ Individual coaching applies to those who knows no English at all. Students are also coached individually by their tutors in the evening from 7:30 to 9:30. ◆ Strict and systematic administration. ◆ Quality learning and living environment. ◆ Colorful English activities ◆ Prolific lectures on English learning. ◆ Well-equipped teaching facilities.
